Political Foreplay: VOTB
Media people write, talk and entertain. Their influences are polarizing and short sided. The print media has a history of backing one group of ideas. Now media people on TV, Internet and radio do the same. During the election process they back one party, the parties’ candidates and their ideas.
One popular entertainer fits this general pattern. He entered the national spotlight immediately after Reagan revoked the Fairness Doctrine in the late 80’s. A partisan hack at the beginning of his career, he has since grown financially and ideologically independent. During his independence process, the cost to American citizens has been great.
While Rush Limbaugh and his pals entertain with political insights, the U.S. strays further to the left. They are an entertaining distraction to what needs to be done. VOTB.
Average citizens (the voting class or givers) have bought into higher housing and living costs, negating the once grand “American Dream” idea. Rush will tell you that the opportunity for achieving the American Dream is still with us. What he doesn’t tell you is that it takes a lot more money than it did 20 years ago. Is Rush stuck in a time warp? He entertains while the rest of us are distressing in inflation’s slow cooker.
Rush and most of his media pals send us positive, introspective messages. The “be all you can be” idea is great on a level playing field. Respect should be given to all citizens who have come up the hard way and are making a decent living. But we don’t have the power to change or shape the national direction – socially, economically or culturally. We’re all to busy making a decent living. Upsetting, is that many of us see people who can make a difference and don’t even try.
Rush is one of those people who needs be doing his talking from an election podium. When a person is given gifts such as he has, one can only wonder, why he’s sitting on the sidelines. He’s cheering but he’s not playing. If truth were to write Rush’s epitaph it would be: He talked a good game but never played. We average citizens have a name for these people – couch quarterbacks.
Rush may not have the self-confidence to run for president or congress. He admits his background is educationally challenged. For example, Rush knows U.S. history. But, he makes clueless statements when it comes to world history. Recently he claimed to know the reason the world speaks English. He says it’s because they all want to do business with the U.S. Has he never heard of England? England spread English around the world long before the U.S. was any kind of international power.
Rush and other media entertainers are another reason to “Vote Out The Bums”. He and others like him are just entertaining citizens with political foreplay. The ideological climax never comes.
Political media entertainers just won’t get off their butts and run for public office. That’s why we the citizens need to take matters into the voting booth. “Vote Out The Bums” means vote out every incumbent, every election. If there are no incumbents to vote out, choose the person with the least amount of campaign money. Those candidates will better relate to everyday citizens.
VOTB – now and get into the game.
